First day at work and the waters back!!

by b_carpet @ 31/07/2007 - 21:34:36

so tomorrow is my first day starting at my new job, they offered me some more days off if i already had stuff planned but i kinda just wanna get in there and get started you know? my last job didnt go so well so i kinda feel like i've got summat to prove at this place. The people i have met (ok only 2 of them!) seem real nice and hopefully i'll get on with most people there but we shall see. I am slightly nervous but then i suppose every one is when they start a new job!

The water finally came back on this afternoon too which is great news, which i celebrated with a nice long hot shower! you dont realise just how much you miss it until its gone!

Hopefully my knee and my muscles which are playing up will recover in the next few days. i just bought some deep heat and i am putting a ton on every so often to see if it will help, i suppose only time will tell.

MS Money

by b_carpet @ 30/07/2007 - 21:56:58

so after moaning about money in a previous blog entry gill36 told me to try ms money (see here). Well i have got my hands on a copy and its seems quite good. Its a little bit confusing at the moment and seems very easy to get lost in but i'm sure i'll be able to pick it up.

There is a great feature where you can anaylse everying you spend i just dread to think what the socialising category is gonna come out with :S But will be good to see just how much i am spending and where! maybe it'll be a wake up call and i wont spend so much on beer if i can see ust how much i peeing away on the stuff.

Any way thats my first impressions of it probably talk more about it after i've used it for a few months

Any excuse!

by b_carpet @ 30/07/2007 - 15:22:03

well i seem to be finding any excuse not to do exercise at the moment and its started to bug me. That sounds silly i know as i'm the only one who can do any thing about it but hey! i need to really get my will power working in over drive now so hopefully i i'll start to improve.

I should be doing exercise nearly every day without fail but at the moment an ant could die and i'd use it as an excuse just to say sat on the sofa instead of doing the exercise i really need to be doing! its like i want the weight to drop off but i'm not willing to put the work in.

On a bad note i think i may have done some thing to my ligaments in my left knee as its killing me, i tried to jog down the road last night and i only got about six yards before it was too painful and i had to stop. So thats kinda put a dent on me starting me exercising seriously again for a little while!

My weight and the water crisis

by b_carpet @ 28/07/2007 - 15:05:32

So I’ve kinda been ignoring the fact I’m trying to lose some weight and ultimately my beer belly since this water crisis has being going on. To be fair I think of all the excuses a national emergency is kind of a good one don’t you?

Since I cannot have a shower I have tried to stay as inactive as I possibly can so that I don’t get too hot and sweaty. Cause lets be honest when your washing out of a sink with the smallest amount of water in it once a day you never feel that clean or smell that nice! I’ve been using as much deodorant as possible though to try to mask any smelliness I may have! So basically I’ve done zero, zilch, nadda in terms of exercise this past week!

I've also had far too much beer, cause all of football has been cancelled and oddly I haven’t be able to find any thing that I can do to replace it I’ve spent nearly all week at the pub (using portaloos and drinking out of plastic glasses!). This means I think I’m bound to have put on weight come Monday when I weigh myself.

However I’ve said to myself as soon as the water comes back on I’ll start on my mission again in earnest! I’ve also re-evaluated my goals, I think I wanna look good for the start of next summer as this one is a wash out, so realistically that gives me around 10 months to get fit. I’ve gotta be able to do that surely?

my last day!

by b_carpet @ 27/07/2007 - 13:59:13

so its finally here my last day in my current job. I've kinda done bugger all all day but then what does any actually expect me to do when i'm leaving and i'm the only one in the office?? off for a drink after work which will be cool to say bye to every one.

Got a call from my new job to tell me not to bother going in on monday though as they dont want any one in that isnt essential because of the water shortage, best bit about it is that its fully paid!!

Next months gonna be a real bitch though for getting money as i'm going from weekly pay to monthly pay :S

The British Spirit

by b_carpet @ 24/07/2007 - 12:56:11

So Gordon Brown said he wanted to promote Britishness a few weeks back and one way he suggested was flying the Union Jack over all public buildings which was far enough and some thing i agreed with, but if he truely wants an example about the Britishness hes just gotta spend a few days in gloucestershire at the moment. I think the whole county has really being showing the British spirit by really all pulling together and making light of the situation we are in right now.

Ok i know there has been fighting and stuff in supermarket car parks over water but i think some of this has got to be expected, people are panicing so what do you expect?

Another thing that i thought was typically 'British' was the way people were all in a nice orderly que waiting for water in the car park of our local supermarket. you see it in other countries where they all crowd the van and the aid workers have to just do the best they can to give every one some but here every one is just standing in the que waiting their turn.

Finally a massive thanks to the emergency services for their great work, last night when it seemed that they were going to lose the electricity plant they managed to save it. The water was an inch away from having half a million people without water so the fact they saved it means a lot to a lot of people! so WELL DONE GUYS AND GALS!

And so it begins

by b_carpet @ 23/07/2007 - 19:57:51

well as of an hour and a half ago the water has run out. Its come out today that it will not be back by wednesday as first thought but now at least 7 days without water! its an odd feeling when you turn the tap and nothing comes out. i'll be interested to see what happens over the next few days, how will it effect businesses? and more importantly will the pubs be open? i'm guessing not, but if thats the case its gutting as i was meant to be having my leaving due on friday but i suppose i'll have to put it back a week.

Its going to be an interesting week. here is to praying the electric keeps holding out!

Light those candles, electric to go next!

by b_carpet @ 22/07/2007 - 19:15:55

So with the news the water is shut off that i talked about earlier we have just got news that the electric is also about to go. Apparently a sub station just down the road is about to be flooded by rising water and there is nothing any one can really do about it! so this time tomorrow we could be sat round with out electric and water. Lets just hope this feud with Russia doesnt take a turn for the worse in the next few days and we lose gas too!

About to run dry?

by b_carpet @ 22/07/2007 - 17:38:51

Ok so here is the scene its the wettest july on records, with have just had two months worth of rain fall in one day, people's houses are flooded, people are having to be air lifted off their houses roofs as the flood is so high, people's cars are/have been under water (so basically more water than you can shake a stick at!) so whats the problem? well in a few hours we will have no water we can use to drink/wash with!

Basically they have turned off the water so gloucestershire only has what water is left in the pipes and that is meant to run out today. The worst thing is that we wont get it back until wednesday!!

People have started panic buying water and any liquid they can get their hands on. I know that tesco, waitrose and morrisions are sold out of water and i've heard a rumour people are travelling all the way to bristol just to get bottles of it! Its madness!

its raining, it's pouring the old man is snoring!

by b_carpet @ 20/07/2007 - 11:46:16

god how depressing is all this rain?! i've got soaked through today in just over an hour and this rain is like we are have a monsoon season! its really heavy and hasnt seem to have stopped all summer. Yeah i did say summer then, as in case people have forgot (cause i have a few times) it is summer right now!

This time of year we are all meant to smell cause we are sweating at just the thought of moving in the blistering heat, but instead we are all indoors watching the rain hammer down against the window. its just so depressing, bring on the winter, at least it dont rain this much!

Where has all the money gone?

by b_carpet @ 18/07/2007 - 14:57:49

So ive mentioned a few times i used to be in debt to the tune of a few thousand last year, well 2007 i've been relatively debt free just owing my parents twenty quid there and thirty quid here (but then who doesnt borrow off their parents?)but yet i've still got as little money as i did when i was in debt.

Ok i know when i was adding to the debt i was living beyond my means, spending more than i earnt (generally having a bloody fantastic time!), but when i was paying off the debt i was plowing a few hundred a month into it. So not only was i living within my means but i was paying off almost £100 a week yet i still managed to have a social life, with me so far?

So here is the confusing point, if i could afford to pay all that AND still have a social life why now i'm debt free am i struggling to find my social life let alone even about saving money, and dont even mention a pension?! I just cannot puzzle it out. i'm having less nights out now than ever before i'm sure of that but i must be spending huge amounts when i do go out.

So to the plan of action. In one week time i'll be converting from weekly pay to monthly pay and so i'll need a lot better grip on my finances so i dont overspend again, so i have decided i think the best way forward is to note down over the next week where every last pound is being spent so i can see where all the money is going. Hell with this new job i might even save a bit! now theres a good prospect!

Blind dates?

by b_carpet @ 15/07/2007 - 22:38:38

So my best mate texted me tonight asking if i wanted to go on a blind date with his girlfriend's sister. Now my first reaction to this was "I aint been on a date for a few months so its a little scary" but in the long run i've not got alot to lose any way have i? so if its a crap evening then so what? i'll have been sat in the pub, had one or two drinks and took a chance i could have found some one that i might have had summat wiv. If however its a good evening then all the better!

I do wonder what people will think though (getting ahead of myself here lol!) if i do start dating her as both me and my best mate will be dating sisters, doesnt that only happen in films and stuff?

I havent really been on a blind date before, i got set up by a mate before but i had seen what she looked like and talked to her before i went on the date. As it happened that one didnt go too well but never mind.

My only concern at the moment is how the hell am i going to know what she looks like when i'm meeting her?!

Also if my mate is setting me up with his girlfriends sister he must of had the blessing from his girlfriend right? does this mean she actually likes me?! cause usually my best mates girlfriends see me as the evil best mate that he shouldnt see at all costs as i lead him wayward?

paraniod?

by b_carpet @ 15/07/2007 - 12:42:41

ok summat i've been noticing the last few weeks i've been glass collecting in my second job as a bar man. You stroll up to some ones table with a tray in your hand (as this is a posh hotel your not allowed to just carry them) and you pick up one glass, suddenly the whole table must come over all thirsty or some thing cause every one will either pick up their glasses and clutch them to their chest (almost like the ring out of LOTR, its their precious drink!) or they will take a sip out of theirs as if to say "I'm still drinking this so bugger off if you think your taking it!"

I think its quite funny, but i dont get why people do it, if there is clearly drink in there i'm not gonna take it now am i? and if it looks like there is the smallest amount in there i still ask if its dead before i take it so, why do people do it?!

Pre-Season

by b_carpet @ 11/07/2007 - 08:01:28

SO it was the first pre-season training session for me last night with my footie team. Now my level of fitness as a keeper is about zero so i always struggle with the whole running in training during the season any way, but during pre-season its summat else!

i didnt manage to do all the training as i dropped down dead before it was finished but i gave it my best shot. I'll tell you one thing though i dont half feel it this morning! my chest is bad, all my muscles ache and my legs feel so heavy! dammit, i'm just lucky its just one a week i gotta put myself through that for the next month and then it starts to calm down again

Computer Problems

by b_carpet @ 09/07/2007 - 21:54:59

SO i just get back into blog world and finally have a little bit of spare time to keep my blog updated and what happens? yeah thats right my computer decides its going to blow up! not only that but while trying to get my hard drives into another computer i managed to break that one too.

Right now i've got one up and working (clearly otherwise i wouldnt be writing this) but its not working fully and seems like its just flatly refusing to see my hard drive with all my stuff on, its so annoying!

Hopefully i'll have it all fixed soon but until then i may still be randomly poping on and not being regular with my blogging
